In the noughties, we adapted the cultivation method of some plots and planted them with a grassy cover.
With no intervention from the winegrower, graminae would grow between the rows, overly competing with the vines for water and nitrogen, and reducing the quality of the grapes. On the other hand, soil with no plant cover is exposed to erosion during heavy rainfalls.
We therefore seek plants that are complementary to the vine and can even increase its vigour. For our trials, we planted thyme, lavender, hyssop, sage and Mesobromion grass.
Thanks to that, some of these plots have acquired a high ecological biodiversity, meaning they feature a broad diversity of flowers – including local species that had disappeared from the vineyards many years ago.
